On April 8, 2025, President Xing Feng of Jinan University, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, led a delegation to the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) for in-depth discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two institutions. The delegation met with key leaders at CityU, including Vice President Lu Chun and Associate Vice President Li Juan, along with various department heads.

During the symposium, President Xing highlighted Jinan University's rich 119-year history as the highest institution for overseas Chinese, noting its commitment to blending overseas Chinese universities with prestigious universities to serve national strategies and promote Chinese culture. He praised CityU's stature as a leading global institution, recognizing its impressive achievements in innovative research, international education, and the integration of industry, academia, and research, particularly in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, digital medicine, and legal technology. President Xing expressed optimism about the existing foundations of academic collaboration in law and materials science and looked forward to transforming this visit into a new chapter for substantive cooperation across various disciplines, ultimately supporting the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Vice President Lu Chun warmly welcomed President Xing and his delegation, commending Jinan University for its significant contributions to overseas Chinese education, the promotion of Chinese culture, and the cultivation of innovative talents. He emphasized CityU's commitment to a problem-oriented research approach, integrating academic innovation with societal needs. Recognizing the historical opportunity presented by the construction of the Greater Bay Area, Lu urged both universities to capitalize on their geographic proximity and interdisciplinary strengths to collaborate on research and development in fields such as biomedicine, materials science, data security, and artificial intelligence, aiming to create a model for international higher education cooperation.

During the meeting, the School of Law/Intellectual Property of Jinan University and the School of Law of City University officially signed the Agreement on Student Exchange Program. This agreement establishes a student exchange mechanism designed to enhance collaboration between the law faculties of both universities. It aims to cultivate high-quality legal talents with a global perspective and strong cross-cultural communication skills, thereby providing vital intellectual support for reinforcing the rule of law in the Bay Area.
The symposium also featured active discussions among heads of relevant departments and academic leaders from both institutions on cooperation mechanisms and academic exchanges, generating several constructive proposals. Both parties committed to using this agreement as a springboard to expand collaborative efforts, deepen strategic synergy, and explore new models for innovative development in higher education within the Bay Area. This visit not only strengthened the long-standing friendship between the two universities but also provided fresh impetus for the advancement of higher education in the region.
Jinan University Holds Hong Kong Spring Tea Party to Unite Overseas Chinese and Foster Development in the Greater Bay Area

On April 9, 2025, Jinan University hosted the Hong Kong New Year Exchange Conference in Hong Kong, bringing together over a hundred attendees, including representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Council of Jinan University, alumni, and leaders from various sectors. The event aimed to discuss future cooperation prospects within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Key figures at the conference included Wang Weiming, Minister of Education, Science and Technology at the Liaison Office; Guo Meisen, Chief Constable of the Hong Kong Police Force; and several Hong Kong trustees of Jinan University. President Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and prominent leaders from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Metropolitan University were also in attendance. The meeting was chaired by Liang Yan, a Standing Committee member of the Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department of Jinan University.
In his speech, Yu Guochun highlighted Jinan University’s 119-year commitment to its motto of loyalty, trustworthiness, and respect, noting that the institution has produced over 80,000 alumni who have significantly contributed to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. He expressed hope that the event would deepen collaboration between Jinan University and various sectors in Hong Kong to further promote the development of the Greater Bay Area.

President Xing emphasized Jinan University’s unique mission as the first overseas Chinese university established by the government in China. Throughout its history, the university has faced challenges but has remained committed to serving the interests of overseas Chinese communities and fulfilling its role in the region. He highlighted the university’s aspirations to innovate in talent training, enhance its academic structure, and strengthen its research capabilities, signaling a vision for Jinan University to become a distinguished institution recognized both domestically and internationally.
Attendees also learned about the Jinan University-Hong Kong and Macau Children's School, showcased through promotional videos. This initiative represents a collaborative effort between Jinan University and the Hong Kong Weigang Education Group to enhance basic education in the Greater Bay Area. Currently operational in Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Foshan, the school aims to support the educational needs of the region.
As one of China’s earliest universities to establish a board of directors, Jinan University has attracted exceptional individuals from various sectors to aid its development. The newly formed 9th Board of Directors includes influential members such as Yu Guochun, Huo Zhenhuan, and He Chaoqiong, all of whom have played essential roles in fostering educational exchanges and supporting Jinan University's growth.
This exchange meeting further solidified the relationship between Jinan University and Hong Kong's diverse sectors. Looking ahead, the university aims to continue collaborating with friends and alumni from all backgrounds to enhance cooperation in education, technology, and talent development, contributing actively to the coordinated growth of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
While in Hong Kong, President Xing and his delegation also visited Luo Yonggang, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government. They engaged in discussions at several institutions, including Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of Hong Kong, and City University of Hong Kong, focusing on deepening cooperation in areas such as industry-university research transformation, academic exchanges, talent training, and student employment.
